The Inaugural Cultural Heritage Walk is intentionally scheduled on October 17, commemorating the events of October 19, 1960, when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. joined students from across the Atlanta University Center in a sit-in at Rich's Department Store in downtown Atlanta. The action culminated in the arrest of fifty-two individuals and marked a pivotal moment in the relationship between student activism, public space, and democratic participation.
